Tampa, Florida – The Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) and Glazer Children’s Museum are stirring together some of their strongest elements to create a powerful reaction called Science Alliance, a new collaboration that saves families money and opens up new options for fun learning for kids across Tampa Bay.
Science Alliance begins today, December 1, 2016. This new collaboration between the museums will bring substantial new out-of-the-classroom education opportunities to our area’s children, including:
– A major discount of 50% off admission to one institution for members of the other institution (certain membership levels apply, see below)
– Joint events that will be planned in the future to bring fun, exciting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning to the Tampa Bay community
As kids in Tampa Bay grow up, inspiration that begins at the Glazer Children’s Museum can continue to expand and flourish at MOSI. By creating a learning “ladder” that steps children from one cultural institution to another as they get older, the CEOs of these Tampa Bay knowledge nonprofits are charting a course for a community that is prepared to take on the careers and challenges of the 21st Century.
“The best children’s museums are gateways to all kinds of learning – from their first live theater performance, to an exploration of the diversity of cultures, or to our own local art and history,” said Jennifer Stancil, President and CEO of the Glazer Children’s Museum. “We know that our region’s success will hinge on a prepared workforce in STEM careers. We must create partnerships like this so parents can continuously engage children in their future… starting at birth.”
The two institutions are also founding members of the Tampa Bay STEM Newtork, a regional network of groups that are teaming up to take a big-picture look at ways to improve science education for every child in our area.
“Science Alliance is the perfect way to recognize how vital hands-on learning is for children in our community. This is a chance to celebrate how museums like ours add crucial real-life connections to what kids are learning in their classrooms,” said MOSI President & CEO Molly Demeulenaere, who also serves as co-chair of the Tampa Bay STEM Network.
