7:00a.m. donation begins
At OneBlood’s Fletcher Donor Center
5301 E. Fletcher Ave.
Tampa, FL 33617
Danny Nales’ father Angel was in the Gallon Donor Club in Tampa, so after Danny graduated High School he decided to become a donor also with a goal of giving a gallon of blood. Once he did that he thought about a 5 gallon bucket size goal, then a 55 gallon drum goal and after that committed to reaching 100 gallons before he died! For years, he gave whole blood on the bloodmobile that came to work and then 17 years ago, when a Donor Center opened nearby on Fletcher Avenue, they asked him to give the special gift of platelets and be began donating them every 2 weeks, up to 24 times a year. Danny has enjoyed the friendly phlebotomy staff over the years and figures if he can help someone by sitting a few hours he should ‘Just Do It’. As a lifelong Diesel Mechanic, Danny has repaired many engines to keep trucks rolling down the highway. As a lifelong blood and platelet donor, he has helped to repair hundreds of lives and families keeping them on the road of life! Along his donor journey, his daughterDanielle began to donate platelets too, following in his lifesaving footsteps, just like he did with his dad!
Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. All donors receive a wellness checkup including blood pressure, temperature, iron count, pulse and cholesterol screening, plus a surprise gift.

Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. Blood that is donated today will likely be transfused into a patient within two to three days. The turn-around is that fast, the need is constant.
