Real estate veteran Tom Danahy to lead division
SARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2016) – Adding to its existing commercial real estate brokerage and property management services, Ian Black Real Estate is now offering Land and Development Advisory Services. The division, which will be led by real estate veteran Tom Danahy, will provide guidance and expertise to users looking to purchase, develop or sell large plots of land, as well as commercial developments and master-planned communities.
Danahy brings with him more than 40 years of experience in real estate development. He has developed or managed more than 25,000 home sites and 150,000 acres in 11 states. His vast experience with large-scale master-planned communities – including Babcock Ranch and Lakewood Ranch – includes land acquisitions, financing, approvals, permitting and entitlements, land development, sales, marketing, community management, and ancillary and amenity operations, including golf and country clubs.
In his new role as Division President of Land and Development Advisory Services at Ian Black Real Estate, Danahy will work with users to provide oversight and expertise in all areas of development. Services will include strategic business oversight, operational management, sales and marketing, financial guidance, approvals and entitlements, community management and government relations.
“This is a very exciting time for us,” said Ian Black, partner at Ian Black Real Estate. “This new division will allow us to broaden our base and expand our reach throughout the state of Florida, and even globally if the demand is there. We’re thrilled to welcome Tom to the team, as he brings with him a significant amount of expertise that will strengthen our team and our company.”
Previously, Danahy served as president of Babcock Ranch for Kitson & Partners. Upon its completion, Babcock Ranch will be one of the nation’s most environmentally innovative and responsible new towns, located east of downtown Fort Myers. In this role, Danahy collaborated with the state of Florida, Charlotte and Lee Counties, major environmental groups, community leaders and area residents. It is entitled for 19,500 residential units and up to 6 million square feet of commercial, retail and institutional space.
Prior to joining Kitson & Partners, Danahy was President of LWR Communities, developer of the award-winning master-planned community Lakewood Ranch. He also served as Executive Vice President for Nicklaus-Sierra Development Corporation (Simanco, Inc.), where he was responsible for the management of several Jack Nicklaus communities.
“Ian Black has a great team full of talented individuals,” said Danahy. “I’ve been very impressed with the work that they do and I’m looking forward to joining them. I think that the future looks very bright.”
