St. Petersburg/Tampa, Fla. (October 31, 2016) – People across Tampa Bay have a new reason to try the Cross-Bay Ferry service, as Frontier Communications has signed a major sponsorship deal to provide free ride tickets every third Sunday of the month from November through April.
Dubbed “Ride Free Day, Powered by Frontier,” the deal covers the full $10 one-way ticket price and will begin Sunday, November 20, and run through the end of ferry pilot project in April. Frontier joins a long, impressive list of companies supporting the Cross-Bay Ferry service. Frontier officials say this sponsorship is a perfect example of the company’s commitment to the Tampa Bay community.

[endif]Frontier also is sponsoring free “Test the Water” rides to the public on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving (21st, 22nd, 23rd) between St. Petersburg and Tampa. As part of its sponsorship agreement, Frontier also will be providing approximately $180,000 in television advertising on its Tampa Bay-area FiOS cable channels to promote and support the Cross Bay Ferry pilot project.
“The ferry is such an exciting project, and a great illustration of our community crossing the Bay and coming together,” said Melanie Williams, Frontier Senior Vice President and Florida General Manager. “Once we heard about the ferry, we knew Frontier had to be involved. I can’t wait to ride it myself and I encourage everyone to come out and use this exciting transportation option. We are doing our part to promote it by sponsoring ‘Ride Free Sundays’ six times throughout the year.”
Tickets will go on sale this Tuesday, November 1 at www.CrossBayFerry.com for the highly anticipated service, and a host of restaurants and shops will be offering special discounts to ferry passengers, including free beer, free spa treatments and hotel room discounts. A full list of discounts and deals is available at www.CrossBayFerry.com.
Ferry service on the weekends will begin Friday, November 4, and full 7-day scheduled service will begin on November 28th, immediately after Thanksgiving. The new Frontier sponsorship means passengers can ride for free on the following “Ride Free Sundays”: November 20, December 18, January 15, February 19, March 19, April 16.
The 98-foot “Provincetown IV” ferry arrived from Boston last week, and will harbor each night in the Vinoy Basin in downtown St. Petersburg. The vessel will make 2-4 round trip voyages to Tampa each day.
“The Cross-Bay Ferry is off to a great start,” said St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman. “We are honored and grateful that Frontier is joining in and generously supporting the ferry by offering thousands of free rides.”
The launch of the Cross-Bay Ferry became possible through a unique collaboration between four local governments: The City of St. Petersburg, the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and Pinellas County – each of which committed funds and resources to support the project. The ferry service will run six months, from November to April to give the community a chance to vote with their feet about a new transit option between the Tampa and St. Pete.
Among community supporters and partners of the Cross-Bay Ferry: The Tampa Bay Times, Frontier Communications, iHeartMedia, Clear Channel Outdoor, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Downtown Partnership, St. Petersburg Chamber, Visit Tampa Bay, Visit St. Petersburg Clearwater and The Pirate Water Taxi.
