During the month of November the Moffitt Cancer Center will be the featured non-profit organization at the Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office. Moffitt is dedicated to one lifesaving mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. The Tampa-based facility is the No. 6 cancer hospital in the nation and has been listed in U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Best Hospitals” for cancer care since 1999. The Pasco County Tax Collector’s Office has teamed up with the Moffitt Cancer Center to raise funds and heighten awareness of the many cancers that exist and to help fund research that will, one day, put an end to this dreaded disease.
“Every five minutes a Floridian is diagnosed with cancer,” states Dr. Thomas Sellers, Center Director at Moffitt. “At Moffitt Cancer Center, we’re doing something about it through research and early detection, prevention and cure of this disease.”
Individuals who have automobile registration renewals coming due in November may choose to trade in their regular license plate for the Moffitt Cancer Center specialty tag. Customers may also purchase the tag for newly registered vehicles or may buy tag vouchers to give as gifts. The proceeds from the tag promotion will go directly to the Moffitt Cancer Center to support research and clinical trials. The tax offices will also accept other cash donations on behalf of the Center.
“It is exciting for the Pasco Tax Collector’s Office to team up with Moffitt Cancer Center for the first time,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “Whether by reputation or experience, most people know of Moffitt Cancer Center. Through our partnership this month we hope to contribute in a small way towards their efforts to put as many Moffitt Cancer Center specialty tags on the road as possible. The fact that every dollar raised will go towards research is extremely important. We know that the funds donated will be put to good use. I encourage every member of our community to stop by one of our offices and make a donation. If you are renewing by mail please consider adding a few extra dollars to your payment.”
