The joy of doing what we do as designers has many facets, but the ability to share our “Art” with others is paramount. I’m not just talking about our finished product, but also our knowledge, experience, insight…the craft of being a designer. There are many young, talented designers out in the world today just waiting for the opportunity for someone to share with them “what it’s like” to do what we do, and hopefully encourage them to join the vast field of design. I may be going out on a limb here, but I think that the more designers we can encourage to follow their passion and callings to join us in this field, the better. The more talent that’s involved only elevates design and what’s possible…fresh perspective never hurt anyone ;)!
The reason for this sort of post this week is because I had the amazing opportunity to spend some time with an aspiring young designer, a senior in high school, who is considering Interior Design as a career.
It was only one day (so it can’t get any more “A Day in the Life” than that, LOL!), but it was a full one. At the end of our day I got a, “this job seems like a really cool career”, from my shadow, who was grinning from ear to ear and so thankful for the time spent! What more could you ask for?! I feel blessed to have had the occasion to share this time with potential young talent, an opportunity that had been afforded to me at the beginning of my time as a Designer (for which I AM thankful!). It’s important for all of us to sow into the next generation, no matter what you do, as OUR legacy is showcased with their success! Bonne nuit!
