SARASOTA, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2016) – The Patterson Foundation announced today it will provide an additional $50,000 this year to support the National Council on Aging, a leader in partnering with nonprofits, government and businesses to provide innovative community programs, services, online help and advocacy for older adults.
Since 2011, The Patterson Foundation has contributed $250,000 to strengthen NCOA’s Self-Managed Care Alliance, a collaborative of federal agencies, funders and corporations focused on strategies benefiting people with chronic conditions, and the Aging Mastery Program®, which helps older adults create their own playbook for aging well through an engaging and innovative education program.
“Our work with NCOA is strengthening some of the organization’s most innovative efforts to help older Americans address the realities of aging,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “NCOA continues to make progress as it inspires people to live healthy, full lives.”
In particular, the Aging Mastery Program® engages older adults as they learn to embrace longevity by spending more time each day doing things that are good for themselves and others. The program encourages mastery—developing sustainable behaviors across many dimensions that lead to improved health, stronger economic security, enhanced well-being, and increased societal participation.
“The Patterson Foundation has been instrumental in NCOA’s efforts to scale AMP from five to more than 160 locations over the past three years,” said James Firman, NCOA President and CEO. “Among other contributions, the foundation helpedNCOA convene the AMP Philanthropy Network, which provides place-based and issue-focused funders with opportunities to collaborate strategically by investing in local projects of national significance. We are grateful for The Patterson Foundation’s leadership, strategic assistance and enterprise-level financial support as we expand AMP to older adults nationwide.”
