“How to Live Long and Prosper” is the theme of the first annual Come Ride With Us! fundraising luncheon presented by iTNSunCoast, at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Court Cabaret, Florida Studio Theatre, in Sarasota. The keynote speaker is Chris Farrell, a senior economic contributor on Marketplace (American Public Radio) whose programming is frequently shared on National Public Radio. He is also the author of Unretirement: How Baby Boomers Are Changing The Way We Think About Work, Community, and the Good Life. Heidi Godman, executive editor of the Harvard Health Letter and host of WSRQ’s daily radio program, “Health Check with Heidi Godman,” will emcee the event.

iTNSunCoast is a local non-profit organization that provides comfortable, convenient, and affordable transportation services to anyone 60+ and any adult of any age with a vision impairment living anywhere within Sarasota and Manatee counties. Rides are available for any reason, 24 hours a day, seven days a week to anywhere within Sarasota and Manatee Counties and are provided mostly by volunteers who use their own cars. The luncheon is a fundraiser for iTNSunCoast and is also part of its efforts to assist area residents in living joyful and meaningful lives.
“The need in our community for dignified and easily-scheduled transportation is tremendous,” said iTNSunCoast Executive Director Arthur Lerman. “We are providing over 10,000 rides this year and that number continues to growing as more and more of our older residents and adults with vision impairments, who are committed to maintaining their independence and staying active and engaged in their communities, learn about our services. Giving people for whom driving themselves is no longer practical or safe a good transportation option is important to the health and wellbeing of residents while helping to keep the community safe.”
Chris Farrell’s talk on “How to Live Long and Prosper,” ties in perfectly with the iTNSunCoast mission. He is a syndicated radio commentator and writes regularly on economics, public policy, and personal finance for a variety of respected publications including Bloomberg Businessweek, Kiplinger, and Minnesota’s Star Tribune.
In addition to her radio program, Heidi Godman is the executive editor of Harvard Medical School’s monthly periodical, Harvard Health Letter. She is an award-winning news anchor and health reporter, well-known for her 25-year career with ABC news affiliate WWSB/Channel 7, and is an American Academy of Neurology journalism fellow.
