Special Thanksgiving and Holiday Youth Aquatics Camps Available for Students
Sarasota, FL (October 12) – Fall programming is in full swing at Nathan Benderson Park report officials from Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates, Inc. (SANCA), the non-profit organization that manages the park.
According to Robert J. Sullivan, president and CEO of SANCA, more programming opportunities are becoming available at the park on a regular basis and the classes and camps are extremely popular. “We are excited to see residents participating in the programs that we offer and delighted to see so many people out here enjoying the park on a daily basis,” said Bob. “We are expanding both our rental and programming opportunities and look forward to welcoming a larger spectrum of community members to the park.”
Currently, residents may sign up for a number of different activities. Learn to Row 101 is an introduction to sculling (two oars) which is typically the first step in learning to row. Individuals with no experience will learn the fundamentals of the sport by starting in single and double shells. Upon completion of the 101 course, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to sweep row (one oar) with other rowers as a team in larger boats in the Learn to Row 201 course. Classes are available either Tuesday through Thursday, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Dragon Boat 101 provides beginners the opportunity to learn the basics of paddling a dragon boat. Dragon Boat 201 takes it a step further teaching participants how to paddle competitively and work towards becoming part of a team at NBP. Classes take place on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Residents may also learn the basics of rollerblading or hone their skills in a private lesson with the park’s certified coach. In addition, they may test the waters by renting equipment at the park. Available for use are stand up paddleboards, kayaks, and single sculls. Plans for yoga and other programming are also in the works, while organizational and corporate team building opportunities are already available as a unique experience for businesses and community groups.
Additionally, SANCA is offering the opportunity for students to participate in a Thanksgiving camp taking place Monday through Wednesday (11/21-23) 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Nathan Benderson Park. Before and after care will also be available for an additional cost. A winter camp is also being planned and details to be announced.
