Runtrepreneurs Get a Deal with Shark Investor Robert Herjavec
ORLANDO, Fl. (October 10, 2016)— Orlando-based start-up, Night Runner 270, is the next bright idea to light up your television screen. A bidding war ensued when a husband and wife inventor/running duo, Doug Storer and Renata Rottinger, appeared on the final segment of ABC’s Shark Tank on Friday.
Storer and Rottinger set off a feeding frenzy when four sharks presented six different offers for investment. The inventors struck a deal with Canadian investor Robert Herjavec for a $250,000 investment + $100,000 inventory loan for a 15% stake in the company.
“We were hoping to get an offer or two, but were stunned to get six different offers from four of the sharks,” said Rottinger. “We were targeting Robert from the beginning because he is a runner and understands the need for the product.”
“This investment will help accelerate the development of our new bluetooth connected version of Night Runner,” said Storer. “It was an honor to have our idea validated by such a talented group of investors.
Night Runner 270 originally launched as a Kickstarter campaign in early 2015. The product quickly gained traction raising $43,000 from over 500 backers in 28 countries. Night Runner 270 consists of two small, featherweight, water-tight, rechargeable LED lights that clip securely to each shoe and flood the path ahead with light up to 30 feet. The product officially hit the market in October 2015 with an international launch at the NYC Marathon. The Storers believe they have pioneered a way to keep runners, walkers, and hikers safe and injury-free in the pre-dawn/post-dusk hours. To date, they have sold over 10,000 units to customers in 42 countries.
