The Hillsborough Community College (HCC) SouthShore chapter of Collegiate 100 is proud to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. On Wednesday, October 19th from 11:00am- 12:30pm, the college will feature speakers Melissa Dohme of Hands Across the Bay and Mikki Petite-Frere of The Spring of Tampa Bay. The women will share stories of survival and resources to help raise awareness to prevent domestic violence.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, “On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.” Collegiate 100 hopes by attending the event, the community understands more about the experience of those who are in a domestic violence situation and gain resources into how and where they can get help in the Tampa Bay area.
