KISSIMMEE, Florida – The Florida Cattlewomen are pleased to be sponsors of the 2016 Savage Race, a grueling 7.5 mile athletic race that challenges participants with 25 military-style obstacles. The race will be held October 22 and 23 at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City and is expected to attract 10,000 racers and 3,000 spectators from all over Florida.
Not only are the Cattlewomen sponsoring the race, six members have formed Team Beef and will participate in the obstacle course. Their training plan includes regular workouts and incorporates lean beef at meal times.
“The Savage Race is known not only for challenging obstacles, but also for an emphasis on team work,” said Beth Hunt, President of the Florida CattleWomen. “We’re excited to participate and spread the word about the healthy improvements each of our team members have made in their lives, including regular exercise and adding more protein like lean beef to their diets.”
Whether you’re training for an athletic race, or want to lose weight, beef gives your body more. A 3-oz serving of lean beef provides about half (25g) of the daily recommended value of protein, which helps you feel full longer. The B-vitamins found in beef help maintain brain function and improve energy, and beef is an excellent source of iron, zinc, niacin and selenium. Lean beef cuts are also leaner than a 3 oz skinless chicken thigh having less than 10 grams of total fat per serving
Research shows that exercise is more effective when paired with a higher-protein diet, and beef provides the amino acids needed for building and replenishing muscles.
“Our cattlewomen know that eating more protein at each meal prevents them from overeating throughout the day. They incorporate beef at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and have experienced first hand the benefits, including weight loss, increased endurance and improved muscle recovery. Beef has also been integral to one team member’s 40-lb weight loss, which has been maintained for more than a year.”
