Brandon, Florida (September 20, 2016) –Brandon Regional Hospital is proud to announce that it has now added surgical weight loss alternatives to the list of procedures performed using the daVinci XI Surgical Robot®.
Brandon Regional Hospital’s first minimally invasive robotic bariatric sleeve gastrectomy was performed in late August. A sleeve gastrectomy is when the stomach is reduced to about 15% of its original size. With this procedure there is no re-routing of the intestines as with the gastric bypass procedure.
Keyur Chavda, MD, bariatric and general surgeon at Brandon Regional Hospital, is performing this surgery in our area. “With so many people wanting to lose weight and get off medications they’ve been on for life related to obesity, the robot offers many benefits to patients,” said Dr. Chavda. “Benefits may include less blood loss, less pain, faster recovery, and reduced scarring.”
“This procedure is a great alternative for those with higher BMIs (body mass index),” stated Dr. Chavda. “Brandon Regional Hospital is excited to be able to offer this new technology to those living in Hillsborough County and the surrounding areas, who can benefit from this type of surgical approach,” he added.
The daVinci XI robot is the latest enhancement to Brandon Regional Hospital’s robotic surgery system.
