LARGO, Fla. September 17, 2016 — The Bay Area Professional Writers Guild Inc. is furthering the success of Tampa Bay authors by publishing its first anthology. The collection of stories and poems highlights personal challenges members of BAPWG experienced throughout their lives and how they overcame those obstacles.
For example, one member wrote about how she faced challenges when she was forced into labor in Cambodia and escaped The Killing Fields. Another wrote a story about his accepting a life-changing disease. The poetry in the book highlights decisions to make while embracing trouble in life. The book features 20 stories and poems about overcoming obstacles.
In addition, the work of two student graduates of the Poynter Institute Writers’ Workshops are featured in the anthology. One is a high school senior; the other attends St. Petersburg College.
“I am happy to be a part of this exciting adventure,” said Louise Harris, chairwoman of the anthology committee of BAPWG. “I enjoyed the process and reading the challenges people survived.”
SINK or SWIM: How Overcoming Obstacles Makes Life Worthwhile will be released in electronic format first on September 30. Pre-orders are now being accepted on Amazon.com for $3.99 for the E-book. The print edition will be available in October through Amazon.com and on BAPWG’s Web site www.bapwg.org at $15.99.
“The year-long project is designed to build our non-profit organization so we can reach out to more professional and student writers,” said Steve Traiman, BAPWG president. “We are anticipating much success from this new venture, with all net proceeds toward more writers’ workshops and support for the Poynter Institute student writer programs.”
