Former Florida Speaker of the House, Will Weatherford, will be inducted into Pasco-Hernando State College’s Legislative Hall of Fame during a brief ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20 at the Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel, 2727 Mansfield Blvd.
Ed Blommel, chair of the PHSC District Board of Trustees, will preside over the ceremony, which will include the unveiling of a plaque that will be displayed in perpetuity in the Legislative Hall of Fame at each of the college’s five campuses. An identical plaque will also be presented to Weatherford.
PHSC President Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D., will recognize the former speaker’s efforts to provide equity in funding for the Florida College System, leading to $7.7 million funding increase for the college and for securing more support for PHSC from the State Board of Education.
The induction of Will Weatherford into the Legislative Hall of Fame continues a new PHSC tradition that recognizes legislators for supporting the college and higher education opportunities for their constituents. In July 2016, Sen. Jack Latvala was the first legislator to be inducted into the College’s Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will be held on main floor of the library, located on the fourth level of the Porter Campus. The event is open to the public.
