BRADENTON, Fla. — Venice-based construction company J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. (JECharlotte.com) recently completed the 2,700-square-foot psychiatric unit expansion for Centerstone of Florida Inc., a not-for-profit organization that offers state of the art mental health and addictions care.
Finished last month, construction on the $540,000 project began in June 2016 to further meet the needs of the community. The construction management team and Tampa architect Shumake Architecture, P.A. worked together to renovate the existing south wing of the former Manatee Glens campus, located at 2020 26th Ave. E. in Bradenton. The reconfiguration of the existing space included four bedrooms, a dayroom, a café and an exterior mechanical equipment yard.
“The expansion by J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. will tremendously benefit the clients we serve who are in crisis,” said Melissa Larkin-Skinner, the chief clinical officer at Centerstone of Florida. “Natural light is healing and therapeutic, and the new design embodies a healing environment for our patients. With seven more beds, we can serve approximately 500 more clients per year, which will help meet the high demand for beds and services due to the heroin epidemic in our community.”
In Florida, Centerstone provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and addictions treatment to more than 15,000 people a year, including 4,200 children and teens. The organization also offers child welfare services focused on family safety and reunification or adoption. The staff — of more than 450 doctors, nurses, counselors, case workers, leaders and support staff — serves one out of every 30 families in the community.
J.E. Charlotte Construction drew from the company’s extensive expertise on healthcare renovations and expansions to help with this project. Currently, the commercial construction company is working on the expansion of the Margo Lang Children’s Crisis Unit at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care, a source for mental health and substance abuse programs and services in Punta Gorda, Fla.
