SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 08, 2016) USF Sarasota-Manatee has hit another enrollment record.
Admissions officials say total enrollment for Fall 2016 edged up 1.6 percent to eclipse the enrollment record of 2,038 students set last fall. Total student enrollment at USFSM now stands at 2,071.
Undergraduate enrollment rose 2.2 percent and the number of graduate students increased 4 percent compared with Fall 2015, admissions officials say. Additionally, summer and fall freshman enrollments jumped from 88 to 103 students this year.
The newly released numbers, which include non-degree seeking student registrations, confirm the campus remains on a growth track after becoming a four-year institution in 2013. That trend is likely to continue.
“I expect that we will see more growth in both our new freshmen and transfer student numbers next year as well,” Director of Admissions Andrew Telatovich said.
Telatovich cited several factors for the gains, from the ongoing popularity of USFSM’s biology program to its new Bridge to Engineering program, which debuted this semester in partnership with the College of Engineering at USF in Tampa, to other well-received academic degree programs.
Also contributing is an effort rolled out this semester called the “SCF Collegiate School Scholarship Program.”
Under this program, USFSM has agreed to pick up tuition costs and fees not covered by other scholarships or sources of financial aid for graduates of the State College of Florida Collegiate School program. Additionally, the campus will provide a $200 per semester book allowance to scholarship recipients.
In addition to the enrollment gains, USFSM is welcoming an impressive freshman class highlighted by a combined 3.9 GPA that exceeds the 3.77 and 3.78 GPAs of the previous two years.
“We are very happy with the strength of our Fall 2016 freshman class and feel they are well prepared for success on our campus,” Telatovich said.
