A documentary/film, “Ambassador of Jazz,” depicts the life journey of Sonny LaRosa which has many twists and turns. The film will be premiering November 17 at 7 pm, in the Muvico Theatre at the Sundial, St. Petersburg. Barbara Bickerstaffe, Troy Bowman and Apollo Productions have produced this film.
Bullied but not defeated, Sonny was a lost child as a result of an abusive father. Sonny’s father, a fledgling jazz musician, decides to live vicariously through his son. He pressured Sonny to play the trumpet. People soon realized that Sonny was a jazz prodigy. Rising from the ashes of no self-esteem; he relishes the applause and standing ovations.
Sonny becomes a preeminent jazz musician favoring the smooth sound of ballads. He vows to help young boys and girls to achieve their musical dreams and forms “America’s Youngest Jazz Band.” Under Sonny’s tutelage they learned about team work, self-appreciation and the benefits of hard work and discipline. Many went on to become professional musicians.
