Tampa, Fla. – The Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center has expanded offerings in performing arts classes for homeschool students in PreK through grade 12. Among those offered are:
American Musical Theater, for those in grades two through 12, offers students an overview of musical theater from historical and performance perspectives. Students explore examples of American musical theater pieces, and musical, theatrical and dance styles from throughout the 20th century. This performance-based class culminates in a classroom showcase performance. Class time for American Musical Theater is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Theater 1, for those in grades two through 12, guides students in exploration of basic performance and technical theatrical studies with the goal of preparing, staging and presenting a classroom showcase of a scripted one-act play. Class time for Theater 1 is Wednesdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Young Performing Arts, for those in K3 through first grade, engages students in a sampler of movement, music and theater games while building confidence and enthusiasm. Options for class times, both on Wednesdays, include 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or a three-hour block from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Homeschool Performing Arts, for those in grades two through 12, allows students the opportunity to explore theater, music and movement in an active learning environment by combining American Musical Theater, Theater 1 and one music class. Students collaborate to develop an open classroom performance. This class is taught Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Beginning Piano, for those in grades two through 12, is designed for the beginner who will explore note reading, piano fundamentals and creative improvisation. Class time is Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Intro to Strings, for those in grades two through eight, is for beginners, who will learn to read music while learning the basics of strings technique. This class is held Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Chorus, for those in grades two through 12, pairs general music with performance. Students develop strong singing technique and musical expression and explore exciting repertoire chosen to develop singing techniques. Chorus is taught on Wednesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
