Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources Adult Services Coordinator Ellen India will speak at the Sept. 6 meeting of the Sarasota Fiction Writers. All are welcome. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Selby Library.
India is in charge of the One Book One Community project, including this year’s multi-event celebration of the works of late Sarasota author John D. MacDonald. She also manages the adult summer reading club and championed the library system’s Little Free Libraries, outdoor boxes full of books scattered across the county.
India will speak to the Sarasota Fiction Writers about how the library system makes decisions about what to add to its collection, reference research tips, how local authors can be involved in library programming and Little Free Libraries.
For 10 years, India worked at Zoo Atlanta, taking care of animals and putting on educational wildlife shows. She was featured in a documentary on the Discovery Channel along with zoo staff and actress Stefanie Powers during a trip to Indonesia.
India has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Emory University and a Master of Library Science from Florida State University. She’s worked in public library systems for 18 years in several departments, including the youth department, circulation and reference.
