PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — This month, Venice-based J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. (www.JECharlotte.com), a commercial construction company that offers a full range of construction management services, began the expansion of the Margo Lang Children’s Crisis Unit at Charlotte Behavioral Health Care, a source for mental health and substance abuse programs and services.
The Margo Lang Children’s Crisis Unit will be expanded into a 10-bed facility to provide help to children and adolescents ages 5 – 17 in crisis. The 3,600-square-foot west wing expansion will house six children’s bedrooms as well as an expanded children’s recreation area of about 1,000 square feet.
The $2.2-million project will also include a 4,400-square-foot enlargement of the administration and services area in the south wing of the building and the 1,000-square-foot increase in the adult recreation area.
“We are very excited to partner with J.E. Charlotte Construction to expand our children’s crisis services to Charlotte, DeSoto and neighboring county residents,” said Victoria Scanlon, CEO of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care. “Expanding this program allows us to better meet the needs of our highest-risk children and families and to save lives. We chose J.E. Charlotte Construction because of their experience, the recommendations we received from their other customers and their competitive bid. We were so pleasantly surprised and grateful to have Jeff Charlotte and his leadership team personally support and participate in our Summer Ball to raise money for this project.”
Located at 1700 Education Ave. in Punta Gorda, the project is slated for completion in late summer 2017. The new child-friendly and family-centered environment will be furnished with comfortable surroundings to encourage family interaction and provide a feeling of peace to admitted children. A true community partner, J.E. Charlotte Construction President Jeff Charlotte donated $2,500 during the company’s annual fundraiser to help furnish the new children’s rooms.
Operating for 47 years, Charlotte Behavioral Health Care’s seeks to optimize health, improve quality of life and build an overall feeling of wellness for all children, adolescents, adults and families in Charlotte County. More than 2,000 children and a total of 11,000 residents are treated annually at CBHC for mental illnesses, behavioral disorders or substance abuse addictions.
CBHC has partnered with The Fred Lang Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization to help individuals find the hope for a brighter tomorrow, through effective mental health and substance abuse treatment provided to children and families in Charlotte County.
By expanding the Margo Lang Children’s Crisis Unit and enhancing the facilities and services available to children in the community, the Fred Lang Foundation hopes to relieve fear associated with stabilizing a crisis and replace it with comfort, hope and healing.
