J. Allison Archbold, a shareholder in the law firm of Fergeson, Skipper, Shaw, Keyser, Baron & Tirabassi, P.A., has been elected to serve a four-year term on the Cornell University Council. The mission of the Council is to make a difference for the entire Cornell community by promoting broad recognition of Cornell as one of the top 10 universities of the world. Archbold has been a member of the Cornell Club of Sarasota-Manatee since 2008 and has served as its Vice President and Secretary.
To qualify for council membership a candidate must have demonstrated leadership and involvement in Cornell activities for five or more years, achieved a significant leadership role in business, a profession, or vocation, or made a significant contribution to the betterment of society through leadership in community, education, charitable organizations, or other humanitarian undertakings. The Council Membership Committee annually reviews nominations received from Council members, deans, and staff, and then makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
Archbold is certified by The Florida Bar as a specialist in wills, trusts, and estates, and has obtained an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating from the attorney rating site Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating available for an attorney’s legal ability and professional ethics. Prior to joining the law firm, she served as a U.S. Marine Corps Judge Advocate from 1998 to 2006.
She is on the Board of Directors of the Sarasota County Bar Association, where she is also a member and former Chair of the Estate Planning and Probate Section’s Steering Committee. She serves on numerous committees of The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, including the Executive Council. She is a member of the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council and is Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
