SAINT LEO, FL – Longtime law enforcement official Cyrus Brown recently was named executive director of University Public Safety for Saint Leo University. He began August 1, 2016.
He will be responsible for safety and security at all Saint Leo locations, including University Campus in East Pasco County, FL, as well as the more than 40 education centers and offices located in seven states.
Most recently, Brown served as associate director of Public Safety at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL.
Brown retired from the Florida Highway Patrol in 2015 after 31 years of service. He joined the agency as a trooper in 1984 and rose through the ranks. He was a trooper until 1988 when he was promoted to sergeant. From 1990 to 1994, he was a lieutenant with the FHP’s Bureau of Investigations.
He was promoted to captain of the Orlando District in 1994 and promoted to major of the Tampa District in 2001. From 2002 to 2009, he was the major of the Orlando District. In 2009, he was promoted to chief for Orlando and remained in that position until his retirement.
Brown earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Barry University in 1997 and his Master of Science degree from the University of Central Florida in 2002. He graduated from the 213th Session of the FBI National Academy; the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville; and the Leadership in Police Organizations program of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
In addition to his law enforcement service, Brown is a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1984.
