Employees help organizations that serve the homeless in Tampa Bay and Birmingham
CLEARWATER, Fla. (August 4, 2016) – More than 100 USAmeriBank employees in Tampa Bay and Birmingham, Alabama volunteered with local organizations that serve homeless populations during the bank’s first Corporate Day of Giving on July 23. The day was part of the USAB Heroes program, which encourages bank employees to get involved in their communities.
In Tampa Bay, USAmeriBank employees volunteered at Metropolitan Ministries, sorting and organizing food in the food distribution warehouse in Tampa. USAB volunteers also worked in the kitchen to prepare and serve meals to families living on Metropolitan Ministries’ campus.
In Birmingham, USAB employees volunteered at Project Homeless Connect, an annual event that connects the homeless with agencies offering a range of help from legal services to medical care. USAB volunteers served as Smiling Faces Client Guides, escorting and assisting attendees as they registered and visited service vendors at the event.
USAmeriBank has always been committed to community outreach and believes it is important for companies to give back. The bank is focused on growing its employee engagement programs, and this volunteer participation, part of the bank’s first Corporate Day of Giving, is one example of the expansion of these efforts.
“Our local neighborhoods are experiencing a family homelessness crisis, and these two organizations lead important work to help families get back on their feet,” said Kara LeComte, Retail and Marketing Executive of USAmeriBank. “At USAmeriBank, we’re proud to have a team of employees that are eager to give their time to support organizations doing meaningful work in our communities.”
Founded in 1972, Metropolitan Ministries provides comprehensive care for poor and homeless families in the Tampa Bay region.
Project Homeless Connect in Birmingham reaches men, women and children experiencing homelessness in an effort to break down barriers to safe, affordable housing. The event is organized by One Roof, which coordinates services provided by homeless agencies, in collaboration with the City of Birmingham and the United Way of Central Alabama.
