Blended cast brings a new twist to the ‘Oz-ian’ classic
LARGO, FL (August 1, 2016) – Theatre Exceptional is in its second season of Theatre Arts and Education Performances for Adults of all abilities with the production of The Wizard of Oz at the Largo Cultural Center. The cast of The Wizard of Oz consists of a blend of bay area professional actors as well as actors with disabilities. Dorothy, portrayed by 24-year-old Sally Norris, is a young girl with Down syndrome who finds herself swept into the land of Oz surrounded by friends as well as a few foes, all of who are just like her.
Directed by Theatre eXceptional’s Artistic Director Brianna Larson, the musical runs September 8 at 7:30 p.m, September 10 at 8 p.m. and a Sunday matinee on September 11 at 2 p.m. in the Tonne Playhouse at the Largo Cultural Center.
This production will take you on a wondrous journey over the rainbow where Dorothy and her friends face many obstacles and discover the strength and power of love and friendship to overcome them all. See this best-loved story come to life in a way you’ve never seen before!
The Wizard of Oz is a benefit performance to support Theatre Exceptional, a Blue Butterfly Production. ‘TheatreX’ is an organization that uses the performing arts to raise awareness, erase misconceptions, provide education and performance opportunities for adults with disabilities. Through regularly scheduled theatre classes and annual professional productions performed with a blended cast of abled and differently-abled actors, it produces works that highlight all different forms of disability.
