TechStart Tampa Bay Hosts its 15th Annual Fundraiser
Tech Jam is TechStart’s annual “Party with a Purpose” to raise funds to develop the next generation of creators
Tampa, FL (July 25, 2016) – Tech Jam is held every August to raise much needed funds for TechStart Tampa Bay, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, inspiration, and opportunities in technology to at-risk youth. This year it will take place on Friday, August 19th and will feature a battle of the bands competition, food, cocktails, 50/50 raffle, activities, and an exclusive VIP after-party. More than 400 people are expected to attend.
The four bands (made up of employees from local tech companies) selected to compete in the Battle of the Bands are:
“Rockovate” from PSCU
“SoundWaVE” from Tampa Bay WaVE
“The Daily Standups” from AgileThought
“Unusual Suspects” from Tech Data
TechStart accomplished some major milestones over the last year. They are truly making a difference in kids lives today which will in turn have a direct economic impact on the future workforce of Tampa Bay. A few of the highlights are listed below:
-Made it possible for 5 kids and their chaperons to attend the 1st ever National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurial Expo (NICEE) in Washington D.C.
-Partnered with MOSI to create Million Women Mentors, a national organization to increase the confidence in young women pursing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
-Donated 23 computers to Monroe Institute of Technology Middle School
-Made it possible for 40 students from Sulfur Springs Elementary to complete Code.org program.
-Coordinated with Microsoft to fly their executives to Tampa to spent the day with Hillsborough High Team Hyra.
-Partnered with Forward Thinking Initiative to launch the Innovation Challenge.
-Partnered with RedVector to take 50 kids backstage of the St. Pete Grand Prix to meet with drivers, engineers, and mechanics.
“Getting kids involved in STEM programs early on in life not only expands their technical skills and builds our future workforce, but also gives them the confidence they need to stay on the right path,” said Chuck Papageorgiou, Chairman of TechStart Tampa Bay. “And this is why TechStart exists and what we’re all about.”
