CLEARWATER, Fla. (July 14, 2016) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay has elected Kara LeComte, Retail and Marketing Executive of USAmeriBank, to its Board of Directors.
LeComte’s appointment to the board is part of a larger commitment by USAmeriBank in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay’s initiatives, which include an upcoming Pinellas County launch of the School-to-Work program. In addition, the bank will be the title sponsor this fall of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ largest annual fundraiser.
USAmeriBank focuses its community support in several key areas, including youth education and development. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay’s focus on providing mentorship to at-risk children aligns well with these focus areas.
“Our children are our future and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay is doing a wonderful job to ensure that children from all walks of life have the opportunity to succeed,” said LeComte. “I look forward to serving on the Board and working with our employees at USAmeriBank to get involved as mentors, particularly with the School-to-Work program.”
This fall, USAmeriBank will help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay launch Pinellas County’s first School-to-Work program. Approximately 20 students from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg will visit the USAmeriBank Operations Center in Clearwater once a month to meet with bank employees who will serve as mentors. The students will attend seminars geared toward post-graduation skills such as resume writing, job interviewing, college preparation and vocational training, and then spend one-to-one time with their USAmeriBank mentor.
School-to-Work, a two-year program that targets high school juniors and seniors, was developed as a resource to encourage mentors and older students who don’t have time for the traditional Big/Little relationship. Mentors and students are encouraged to stay in touch beyond their regular scheduled visits.
USAmeriBank will also be the title sponsor of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay’s largest annual fundraiser, The Art of Helping Children Gala, on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Hilton Tampa Downtown. Proceeds raised at the event will support the organization’s mission to serve children across Tampa Bay by giving them the tools and guidance they need to be successful in school and in life.
LeComte joined USAmeriBank in 2012, bringing more than 10 years of experience in retail banking and corporate training and talent development.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay is part of the nation’s largest donor and volunteer-supported mentoring network, and holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships. Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs youth, or “Littles,” with screened volunteer mentors, or “Bigs,” and monitors these mentoring matches throughout their time in the program. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity – often of a single or low-income household or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military – with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. In 2015, nearly 3,000 children were paired with mentors in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Citrus, Hernando and Sumter counties. The agency received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and was awarded the BBBS National Gold Standard Award and the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2015 Non-profit of the Year Award in the area of Public and Societal Benefit.
