Writer Nears Release of Book on Historic Ancestor with Ties to Daniel Boone, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA — Author Debra Yates has signed an agreement with Total Fusion Press for Woman of Many Names. The Ohio-based publisher is providing editing, publication, and distribution services for the non-fiction book on Nancy Ward, the seventh-great-grandmother of Yates.
“I was pleased to have had interest from multiple publishers for Woman of Many Names,” Yates said. “Total Fusion Press is the right choice for this book. The personalized attention they give is of great value and their knowledge and experience will certainly go a long way toward the book’s success.”
Rob Coburn, president of Total Fusion Press, said, “We’re all about helping individuals share their stories with the world and this is a perfect example of that. I, personally, have a great interest in history, so the work that Debra Yates has done on telling Nancy Ward’s story is something that I was drawn to and knew would be an exciting project to work on.”
Nancy Ward had ties to Daniel Boone and George Washington, including having saved the latter’s life (and, it’s believed, vice versa). (A letter written by Ward to Washington was later found in Thomas Jefferson’s affects.) A role model akin to Joan of Arc, for young girls, Ward has been memorialized in Benton, Tennessee, by a federal historical marker at her burial site. Also known as Nanyehi, she also foretold one of the great American tragedies, the Trail of Tears. The late Elia Kazan – who the New York Times called one of the most honored and influential directors in Broadway and Hollywood history – said that his biggest regret was not making a movie about Nancy Ward.
An online community for the book has been forming at www.facebook.com/WomanOfManyNames. The book will be released soon, although an official date has not yet been set.
A hybrid publisher serving the at-large writing community, Total Fusion Press operates in the Akron-Canton area of Ohio under the slogan, “Where your stories are our passion and purpose.” Their website is www.TotalFusionPress.com.
