Crossman & Company President Serves on Nomination Board
TAMPA, Fla. (June 24, 2016) — Crossman & Company President John Crossman visited MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa earlier this month to honor another impressive crop of Florida cadets heading to U.S. military academies.
Crossman joined Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson for the annual reception hosted by the Senators. For the last five years, Crossman has been appointed to the Regional Service Academy Nomination Board by Rubio.
The Senators’ academy nomination review boards interview qualified candidates and offer recommendations to the Senators each fall for nomination. Florida cadets who accepted appointments to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy or the U.S. Military Academy attended the reception.
“First it’s a privilege to be part of this historic and significant endeavor. These young men and women are superb students and outstanding citizens, and our nation’s future leaders,” Crossman said. “I was happy to be able to attend this great day of celebration with my family and honor them and their proud families.”
Nelson and Rubio, nominate high school students for spots at each of the four academies every year, The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
Though the state is guaranteed only one spot at each school, the Senators nominate 10 cadets for each one. They rely on board members like Crossman to recommend candidates who meet the basic qualifications, and possess traits and skills that will help them succeed at each academy.
“Our state’s applicants are of such a high caliber that more than four usually are offered an opportunity to attend one of these prestigious institutions,” noted Crossman.
Attending are academy appointees, along with their family and friends, members of each Senator’s service academy nomination review boards, and representatives of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, and U.S. Marine Forces Central Command.
