Tampa, Fla., June 23, 2016 – Walmart knows customers want to save not just money, but also time. That’s why Walmart is introducing Walmart Pay – a fast, easy and secure way for customers to pay with their smartphones in Walmart stores. Customers in Florida will be among the first to use the new service, now available in each of the more than 300 Walmart stores in the state.
“We can’t wait to hear what our customers and associates in Florida think of Walmart Pay. The service was built to make shopping easier and faster, something we know our customers want,” said Daniel Eckert, senior vice president, Services, Walmart U.S. “Walmart Pay is a powerful addition to our app, a tool that we’re using to transform the shopping experience by seamlessly connecting our online assets and our stores for customers. The service opens the door to new and better ways we can serve the 140 million customers who shop our stores each week.”
With this launch, Walmart becomes the only retailer in Florida to offer its own payment solution that works with any iOS or Android device*, at any checkout lane, and with any major credit, debit, pre-paid or Walmart gift card – all through the Walmart mobile app.
“Walmart Pay will make shopping easier for our customers in Tampa Bay and is the latest example of how we are using technology to transform the Walmart shopping experience across Florida,” said Phillip Keene, Walmart’s director of communications for the Southeast. “Walmart Pay is an easy and convenient way to make purchases with your smartphone, eliminating the need to carry a wallet or purse. Walmart has always been known for saving our customers money, and now, with services like Walmart Pay and Online Grocery Pickup, we are also saving them valuable time.”
Walmart Pay is one of the latest digital innovations to launch by the company in the Sunshine State. In the fall of 2015, Walmart changed the way Florida customers shop for groceries by launching Online Grocery Pickup, a free service that enables customers to order groceries online and pick them up at a local Walmart store at a time they choose — without even leaving their cars. Walmart’s grocery pickup service features 30,000 items – including fresh produce, baby products and personal care items – all priced at the same low prices customers find in their local Walmart store.
Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup is currently offered in Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Naples, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach. Earlier this month, Walmart launched the service at two new stores in Pensacola.
