SARASOTA, Fla. (June 22, 2016) USF Sarasota-Manatee received a big boost Monday from the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, a $5,000 check.
The contribution, which comes after years of generous USFSM support, will go toward a variety of campus needs including the recent 40th Anniversary Hospitabull Gala. The donation elevates the foundation’s giving total to $25,000 since 2007 when it announced support for USFSM programs to sharpen students’ communication and presentation skills.
“Enterprise continues to be supportive of our campus and we truly value the role they play in the development of our students,” said USFSM Regional Chancellor Dr. Sandra Stone, who welcomed Enterprise representatives Kayla Siwiec and Andrew Gorman to the campus Monday. “Their generous gifts help create career-focused programs to better prepare our students for life after graduation, which is a top priority for all of us at USF Sarasota-Manatee.”
Started in 1982 by Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s founder Jack Taylor, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation was established to allow the company to support communities where its customers and employees live and work. The foundation has contributed more than $230 million to thousands of registered non-profit efforts nationwide since its inception.
At USFSM, professional development programs in particular have benefitted from the foundation’s giving. This past spring, the foundation supported two events offered by USFSM’s Career Services Office – “Kiss, bow and shake hands,” which helped business students understand foreign business customs, and “Game On,” which focused on their interview skills.
“Enterprise has supported us for more than 10 years and we are grateful for its assistance and to be able to enter into a partnership with Enterprise,” Career Services Coordinator Toni Ripo said. “They have also hired many of our students, so they have been an invaluable partner to us.”
USFSM works with Enterprise-Rent-A-Car to place students into management internship and trainee positions. This has led to several attaining sales and management careers.
The donation also comes as the campus is renewing its focus on careers and career advising.
The campus is reconfiguring its career advising model to create a new personalized system that includes a student “career success map.” Under this system, a three-tiered platform of career advisors and advisory specialists will work closely with students on course selection and career choices to help them attain their goals.
