SARASOTA COUNTY – Learn how to save money and resources at work or in your organization by adopting sustainability practices with free classes offered by Sarasota County.
The “Green Your Business” series, with classes from June through September, will show businesses and non-profits how to cut energy use, water consumption and waste production to strengthen their bottom line, improve workplace culture and attract customers.
Cooling, heating, lighting and other building services account for about 40 percent of the total energy use in the United States each year, or roughly twice the global rate. And 83 percent of Sarasota County commuters drive to work alone, with an average drive time of 22 minutes each way.
Cutting those rates would help save money, lower resource demand, reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, and bring a host of other benefits for businesses, their employees and the wider community.
The “Green Your Business” series offers solutions on a broad range of topics, through one-hour classes that focus on manageable elements:
- Green Your Workplace: Sustainable Practices for Businesses (offered June 24 and July 28)
- Energy and Water Conservation for Businesses (July 22, Aug. 25);
- Waste Reduction in Your Business (Aug. 26, Sept. 22)
- Smart Commute: A Greener Way of Doing Business (Sept. 23)
Classes are free and open to the public, with start times of noon or 5 p.m. and locations across the county to accommodate the workforce. For more details on individual classes and to register, visit Eventbrite.com (search “Green Your Business” and Sarasota) or call 941-861-5000. Register early to reserve your spot and receive notice of any changes.
Attendees representing a business or organization will receive a free Business Resource Conservation Kit (one per business), valued at $35, containing energy- and water-conserving devices such as LED light bulbs, a smart power strip, and faucet aerator.
