SINGLE “TWENTY-SOMETHING” OUT JUNE 17, VIDEO PREMIERES ON UNIVISION.COM
St. Petersburg, Fla. (May 10, 2016) – Pet Shop Boys announce the first leg of their “Super” world tour starting on Oct. 21 in Las Vegas, and coming to the Mahaffey Theater on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 8:30 p.m.
The 27-day run includes shows in the U.S., Canada, Germany, Holland, Denmark and Russia, and will go on sale May 13. More dates including U.K. shows will be announced later this year. The band will be playing songs from their storied career as well as their critically acclaimed new album, Super, out now on x2 Records via Kobalt.
The new single “Twenty-something” will be released on digital and CD formats June 17, with the official video premiering on Univision.com. It was directed by Gavin Filipiak, who caught Pet Shop Boys’ attention when he helmed the video for the group Prayers’ cover of their classic track “West End Girls.” Filipiak says “the band loved the authenticity and feel of the video and wanted something similar for their new song, which has a Latin sound to it. For the video, they were imagining a Hispanic character going through the same struggles described by the lyrics of the song.”
The “Super” tour will be staged by longtime Pet Shop Boys designer Es Devlin and choreographer Lynne Page, and will follow their sold-out residency of four nights at the Royal Opera House in London July 20-23. The band is collaborating for live music arrangements with Stuart Price, who produced and mixed their latest album along with 2013’s Electric.
Over the last 25 years Pet Shop Boys have gained a reputation as innovators of the modern live music show. They were among the first to integrate multimedia and theatrical elements into their productions and they have collaborated with Derek Jarman, Zaha Hadid and Sam Taylor Johnson.
Super entered the official U.K. Album Charts at No. 3, marking the duo’s 16th U.K. Top 10 album to date. The first single “The Pop Kids” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s U.S. Dance Club Charts. The album was written in London and Berlin and features 12 new Tennant/Lowe compositions.
