Tampa, Fla. – Now in it’s third year, the Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida Walk for Wishes was once again held at Curtis Hixon Park over the weekend. Over 825 walkers joined to raise over $217,000 to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Local Wish Kids were joined by Walk for Wishes Committee Chair, Dennis Leon, and Honorary Chair, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver, Vincent Jackson to present the check to the crowd.
“We’ve watched this event grow over the past three years, both in the number of attendees and the funds raised” said Lisa Andrews, Regional Director for Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida. “Because of the passionate support of our local community, we are now 27 wishes closer to our goal of 300 wishes being granted by our chapter this year. That’s 27 children with life-threatening medical conditions that now have something incredible to look forward to.”
Local sponsors and partners were a large part of the event’s success. Title sponsor, Tech Data and presenting sponsor, Allegiant Air were among the top sponsors for the event. Other lead sponsors and donors included Kinney, Fernandez & Boire, P.A., Richman Signature Properties, MyMatrix, and more.
“Seeing the Tampa Bay community come together on behalf of these children is such an inspiring experience,” said Presenting Sponsor Allegiant Air’s, Brandon Myers. “Because of their efforts our Wish Kids are able to envision life beyond doctors appointments with renewed hope.”
The event’s top fundraiser, Mala Murthy, raised over $8,300 to help grant wishes for local kids. Her team, U Wish, We Walk, was also the event’s top team and raised over $18,000. They were graciously supported through a corporate match program offered by UnitedHealthcare.
