SARASOTA COUNTY – The county’s drinking water has again been recognized among the safest and cleanest in the state.
Sarasota County recently won top honors in a regional Best Tasting Drinking Water contest, held last month by the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association. The county’s tap water was selected by the panel of judges as the best in Region X, topping Charlotte, DeSoto and Manatee counties and several other municipalities and utilities for the third straight year. Sarasota County was also one of 12 finalists in the statewide competition, won last week by the City of Tallahassee.
“This is a fun competition, but it reflects the hard work by our county team to provide the kind of safe, clean drinking water our customers expect when they turn on the faucet,” said Public Utilities Director Scott Schroyer. “It also highlights the importance of providing this vital service, as we have seen in the unfortunate water crisis in Flint, Mich. It’s a mission we take seriously.”
Sarasota County Public Utilities provides water to nearly 89,000 customers throughout the county.
