Bringing in the beach without…well…bringing in the beach! In Florida, especially for vacation or rental properties, many people tend to go a bit overboard with the whole “beach” theme. Sea horses and manatees attached to the outside of their homes, sea shells and sand dollars everywhere on the inside…please make it stop, LOL! You can have the beachy or coastal feel without being over the top and cheesy (just say no to the repeating pattern pastel sea shell, starfish, and coral wallpaper). We like to use the phrase, “without being obvious”, which is what I told our clients the other day. I had a consultation with some potential buyers of a rental property who wanted to keep the feel of the beach theme in the space, but update to a better standard of design. As we tell a lot of our clients, the best way to bring this feel in is through color, texture, and artwork (like in the photo). We brought in different colors and textures (the lamp that has a shell finish) which alluded to the beach theme without making it look like Margaritaville in Key West (no offense to anyone who loves this place!). We also hung some nice pieces of art to compliment the theme without being over the top.
As is the case with most things, moderation is the key. Stick with the simple and no more cheesy beachy wallpaper!
