SARASOTA, Fla. (April 25, 2016) – New York-based poet and dance critic Jack Anderson will give a poetry reading at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at USF Sarasota-Manatee’s Selby Auditorium. The reading and book signing are free to the public.

Anderson has published 10 collections of poems, including Getting Lost in a City Like This (Hanging Loose Press, 2009). His work has been recognized with a Pushcart Prize, the Marie Alexander Award for Prose Poetry and a National Endowment for the Arts literary award.

A visiting writer at several institutions, including the University of Kansas, Anderson has given readings at colleges and cultural centers across the United States, Canada, England and Australia.

He’s published seven books on dance history and criticism and is well-known for his performance reviews in the New York Times, Dance Magazine andwww.nytheatre-wire.com. He’s also New York correspondent for The Dancing Times of London.

Anderson will visit Sarasota with educator and dance historian George Dorris to attend the Sarasota Ballet. The English Society of USFSM, a club open to students interested in literature and writing, is sponsoring the poetry reading.

“We are fortunate that a writer of Anderson’s stature is available to give a reading for the whole community on our campus,” said Dr. Valerie Lipscomb, associate professor of English and club advisor. “The event will appeal to all poetry lovers and dance enthusiasts as well as our students.”

No reservations are necessary for the reading, and light refreshments will be served. Selby Auditorium is at the south end of the USFSM campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
