Sometimes….for the greater good of an overall space, you have to make a sacrifice. I’m not just talking about compromising on a sofa here people; I’m talking about taking down some walls!! We had a consultation earlier in the week where we were able to suggest such a sacrifice. The space in question was a small 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa (or also lovingly referred to as a duplex). In order to make the space more functional for the owners, we suggested reconfiguring the space. Now, many of you reading this will think, “Well…yeah, isn’t that what you guys do?!” Yes, however, the suggestion involved changing the villa from a 3 bedroom to a 2 bedroom unit…What?! We actually recommended removing a bedroom?! The current bedrooms were very small to start with, and the bedroom the owners were trying to make into a master (with a king bed) was TINY (it was a logical choice, due to the “on suite” bathroom). So…how do we fix this problem? Well…turn one guest bedroom into the living room, make the guest bathroom larger, take some space from the old living room, wall it in to connect to the other guest bedroom to the bath, and make a master suite out of it…Voila! Easy peasy!
Now, yes, you do have one less bedroom, but what you have gained is so much more! You now have a large master with an on suite bathroom (which, if I may add, will now have the space for a double vanity), and a second “separate” guest area which will also have its own bathroom! Win Win! So…don’t compromise on your space to try and “make it work”. Do what’s best for you….after all, you are the one living there!
