Hillsborough Community College student Shahriar “Shawn” Zamani is one of 20 students from across the country named to 2016 All-USA Community College Academic Team, honoring him for outstanding intellectual achievement and leadership. The All-USA Community College Academic Team is a merit award based on academic success and community service.
“I am grateful they recognized my efforts to continue my education, further myself and grow,” said Shawn. “I am grateful for the many bonds and relationships that I have developed at HCC,” said Shawn. “I’ve learned so much from the faculty and experienced a lot outside of the traditional classroom environment. If I could do it all again, I definitely would.”
Shawn is a member of the HCC Honors Institute, president of HCC’s chapter of Phi Beta Lambda and a Dale Mabry Campus student ambassador. The aspiring Oncology Pharmacist is active both at HCC and in the local community, making time to volunteer at the pharmacy of a local hospital, and serving as a volunteer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
The All-USA Community College Academic Team is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in cooperation with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and is sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group. Twenty team members are named annually with each receiving a $5,000 scholarship, a total of $100,000 in scholarship awards. In addition to scholarships, team members are featured in the USA TODAY newspaper and presented at the annual President’s Breakfast held during the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention.
Hillsborough Community College serves more than 45,000 students annually at five campuses and three centers throughout Hillsborough County. HCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
