St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 18, 2016) – Jamaica’s Beres Hammond, the singer/songwriter whose rich, soulful baritone made him a shining star in both lovers rock (romantic) and dancehall (club dance) reggae styles, will perform at The Mahaffey Thursday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Since his classic solo debut,1976’s Soul Reggae, Hammond has been one of reggae’s most innovative and successful performers, with hits including “One Step Ahead,” “Is This a Sign,” “Tempting to Touch,” “Picking Up the Pieces” and the Maxi Priest duet “How Can We Ease the Pain.”
Hammond’s 2012 double album One Love, One Life topped the Billboard reggae chart, and was nominated for a Grammy Award. In 2014, the Jamaican government awarded him the Order of Jamaica, in recognition of his “exceptional and dedicated contribution to the Jamaican music industry.”
Tickets, $37.50, $47.50, $57.50 and $67.50, go on sale to the public Friday, April 22 at noon. Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts members can purchase tickets beginning today at noon. The Mahaffey Box Office is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and at least 90 minutes prior to any ticketed event. There are no added charges ever on tickets purchased directly from The Mahaffey Theater.
