LARGO, Fla. (April 14, 2016) – Kimberly Lacina, director of clinical services for Sunstar Paramedics, has received the 2016 Distinguished Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) award from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, which administers the certification exams for emergency, flight, transport and trauma nurses.

The Board presents the award to one CTRN each year in recognition of his or her outstanding support of the certification process in flight or critical care ground transport nursing. The award was presented to Lacina on April 13 at the 2016 Critical Care Transport Medicine conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“Kim has focused on quality care throughout her career with Sunstar Paramedics, which helps us provide exceptional patient care and earn high patient satisfaction scores,” said Mark Postma, chief operating officer of Sunstar Paramedics. “We’re pleased that the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing has recognized Kim’s service to Pinellas County.”

Lacina joined Sunstar Paramedics as a registered nurse on its Critical Care Transport Team in 2002. Before becoming the director of clinical services, she served as the special services supervisor and critical care transport coordinator.

Named Florida’s 2007 EMS Nurse of the Year, Lacina has presented at national conferences and served on the Air and Surface Transport Nurse’s board of directors.

Lacina holds certifications as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP-C), emergency nurse and paramedic in addition to her Master of Nursing degree. She also served as adjunct faculty at St. Petersburg College.
