Dave McGerald, CEO of the Early Learning Coalition of Hillsborough County for the past 15 years submitted his letter of retirement to the Board Chair, Aakash Patel, on Monday evening during a regular Board meeting. McGerald’s last day will be August 12, 2016.
What began as a 2 person operation in early 2001 has grown into a 40 employee organization providing Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten and Subsidized Child Care services to over 20,000 young children in Hillsborough County with an annual budget of nearly $80 million.
McGerald praised the work of the Coalition staff, thanked the Board Members for their dedication and service to the organization, and reminded everyone that the most important goal for the Coalition is to provide the support and resources to our local early care and education providers who do the most important work of caring for and educating our youngest citizens. Rodney MacKinnon, Executive Director of the Office of Early Learning in Tallahassee said, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dave for almost ten years. He’s a dedicated advocate for early learning and I hope he’ll continue to be so during his well-deserved retirement.”
Aakash Patel, who was appointed by the Governor as Coalition Chair, thanked Mr. McGerald for his years of service. Mr. Patel will lead the search committee to find a replacement for the outgoing CEO.
