Saturday evenings are about to get a little rowdier for Bright House Networks customers in Tampa Bay and Central Florida.
Beginning in April, the Rowdies will air their home games exclusively on Bright House Sports Network. With this new television partnership, Bright House Networks will deliver all the thrills of NASL soccer into more Florida homes than ever before.
Last year the Rowdies attracted more than 5,000 soccer fans a week to downtown St. Petersburg’s historic Al Lang stadium for each home game, filling nearly 80% of the stadium’s capacity. Now they will also be available to watch on television in Tampa/ St. Petersburg/ Clearwater and Orlando-Daytona/ Melbourne. The 2016 Rowdies season begins April 2, as the Rowdies play host to Indy Eleven at 7:30pm.
“I’ll be the first to admit that I had never been to a Rowdies game until I bought the team at the urging of Rick Baker, the former mayor of St. Petersburg,” said Rowdies principal owner Bill Edwards. “Since then, I’ve been to all of the games, and it’s beyond amazing to me when I see all the families who come out to enjoy the games together. Our fans are the best in the league, so making this deal with Bright House was important to me, to show an allegiance to all the fans all through Central Florida. And, as my marketing team reminded me to say, if you don’t have Bright House Sports Network, you might wind up kicking yourself.”
Bright House Sports Network plans to televise all 16 home games, with the possibility of some additional playoff games, in high definition (HD). All of them can be seen exclusively on Bright House Networks HD channel 1147. Game day telecasts will feature more than 20 HD cameras and nearly as many microphones to provide for a unique television experience. A replay of each game will also air the following Sunday at 2pm.
“Bill Edwards has done an outstanding job with the franchise, building excitement and turning ‘Soccer Saturdays’ into must-see events in downtown St. Petersburg,” said Chris Jadick, Director of Bright House Sports Network. “We see a great future for the franchise and we proudly look forward to being a part of it. “
