Rob Sanders of Brandon is one of ten writers invited to a Picture Book Boot Camp hosted by Jane Yolen. Yolen is the award-winning author of children’s books, fantasy, and science fiction, including Owl Moon, The Devils’ Arithmetic, and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?
The by-invitation-only event will include lectures, guest speakers, and a visit to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. The boot camp will be held March 30-April 3 at Yolen’s farm in Hatfield, Massachusetts.
A native of Springfield, Missouri, Sanders teaches fourth grade language arts at Hortense Mintz Elementary School in Brandon, Florida. He has taught in Hillsborough County schools for twelve years. Sanders’ first picture book, Cowboy Christmas, was released by Golden Books/Random House. That book was followed by Outer Space Bedtime Race from Random House Books for Children in 2015. His latest work, Ruby Rose–Off to School She Goes, will be released by HarperCollins this June.
“I’m excited to learn all I can to become a better writer,” Sanders says, “and I can’t wait to bring back what I learn to my students.”
