Tampa, Florida (February 23, 2016) – Tampa Community Hospital announces that Melissa Lofton, RN, JD (Doctorate of Jurisprudence), CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management), CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety), LHRM (Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager), CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality), as Vice President of Quality & Patient Safety. Ms. Lofton was promoted from her position as Director, Patient Safety & Risk Management at Tampa Community Hospital, where she was already responsible for numerous programs in patient safety, quality and risk management.
Ms. Lofton came to Tampa Community Hospital from HCA’s Gulf Coast Division in Houston, Texas. She has served in various risk management positions throughout the HCA system in Texas since 2010 including Bayshore Medical Center and Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. Prior to joining HCA, Ms. Lofton practiced law, specializing in medical malpractice defense.
Ms. Lofton has been a registered nurse since 1991 and an attorney and member of the Texas Bar since 2000. She received her doctorate of jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law and her bachelor of science in nursing the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Ms. Lofton holds a variety of certifications and licenses as indicated by her credentials.
