The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) has elected Paula Flores (Benway) as International President. Benway is a transportation manager for Transportation Planning and Engineering at Stantec, based in the Tampa, Florida office.
Benway has served the ITE for two decades of her three-decade long career in the transportation planning and traffic engineering industry. Benway said, “A seamless transportation system that meets the needs of all users can help ease infrastructure costs and burdens, retract sprawling land use patterns, and improve the quality of life for our communities. ITE should be at the forefront of this important societal challenge in helping our industry move towards a more equitable transportation system – and I intend to help us move toward this goal in 2016.”
Benway has extensive experience in managing and performing a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering projects with significant focus in urban environments and creating transportation options. Paula’s project success can be attributed to her passion and commitment to collaborate and find creative solutions to challenges. Benway has served as an ITE officer at the Section, District, and International levels including on the International Board of Direction, Chair of the Parking Council, and most recently as the ITE International Vice President. Paula also serves on the Board of Directors for the Florida Cycling Foundation.
Frank Domingo, Stantec’s Discipline Lead for Transportation Planning and Engineering, said of Benway’s role, “We are proud to have Paula serving as the International President of ITE. She brings great benefit to this important organization with her tireless leadership and enthusiasm for the exciting changes in store for our practice. Stantec also derives incredible value through her networking and access to important national and worldwide trends in the transportation industry.”
