Sarasota-Based Community Bank Staff Donates Over 2000 Hours of Community Service for Year
February 9, 2016 – (Sarasota, Florida) – Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida President and Chief Executive Officer, Shaun P. Merriman announced today bank employees volunteered 2,132 hours to community organizations in Sarasota and Manatee counties in 2015. In making the announcement Shaun Merriman stated, “I am immensely proud of our bankers in giving so much of their personal time to better our community.” He continued, “Community service has always been among our highest priorities and our banking staff continues to give at a near record pace.”
Gateway Bank strongly encourages every bank employee to take an active role in bettering the communities served by the institution. On this point Shaun Merriman commented, “We firmly believe the health of any banking institution is reflective of the health of the entire community and in this regard our bankers devote their time and effort to making our community strong and socially healthy.”
Among the many organizations benefitting from Gateway bankers involvement are; The United Way, Junior Achievement, Just4Girls, local food banks, and schools. In addition, the bank sponsors or shares sponsorship of a number of community events. The bank does not count community service hours for business development events, sporting events, or non-bank sponsored musical events.
Notable among bank community services posts, Shaun Merriman serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, the Van Wezel Foundation, and the Florida Bankers Association. Senior Vice President Cindy Denison serves as a Board Member of the United Way of Manatee County and the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Girl Scouts of America.
In addition to volunteerism, Gateway Bank of Southwest Florida donated over $34,000.00 to community organizations in 2015.
