Tampa, Fla. – Three performing arts groups have made the University Area Community Development Corporation (UACDC) their home for performances and more are invited to use the spacious auditorium and other versatile venues, including an outdoor pavilion and intimate theater spaces.
The VYB Dance will present its annual fundraiser – Heart 2 Heart Charity Showcase – on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. on UACDC’s stage, with proceeds benefitting UACDC. The group will present additional performances at UACDC later this spring.
Theater groups New Tampa Players and DeArmon Creative Arts School and Theater will also present their 2016 seasons at UACDC. New Tampa Players will perform Something’s Afoot April 7-17, Beauty and the Beast July 29-Aug. 7 and Into the Woods Nov. 4-13. The group will designate one performance of each show as a UACDC fundraiser. C.A.S.T., a homeschool theater group, will perform Peter Pan, Jr. March 11-12, and Mary Poppins May 5-14.
“The University Area CDC is thrilled to be the chosen venue for these performance groups. Our mission is to serve our community, and each of these groups is helping us achieve that goal by not only providing opportunities for local performers, but also by giving back to the University Area CDC through fundraising and volunteering. These are wonderful partnerships for all of us and we encourage other local arts groups to utilize our performance spaces as well,” said Sarah Combs, UACDC CEO and executive director.
UACDC offers support for thousands of Tampa residents through youth programs, adult education and resource assistance. Its primary mission is the redevelopment and sustainability of the at-risk areas surrounding University of South Florida’s Tampa campus.
In addition to its many programs for residents, the UACDC hosts events for area businesses, non-profit organizations and community members. From meetings to parties and performances, their facilities include classrooms, meeting rooms and the approximately 8,000-sq.-foot gymnasium/auditorium.
