Haneke Design’s latest web site project helps client achieve goal of boosting local investment in Florida startup companies
Tampa, Fla. – February 1, 2016 – It’s a familiar scenario: Entrepreneurs who’ve exhausted their financing options from friends and family start looking for new investors who can help move them along toward their next stage of growth. The lucky ones find accredited investors who commit the funds and mentoring they need to succeed. Far too many others, however, struggle to build their young companies as their quest for additional capital stretches on.
To help solve this problem in Florida, a group of serial entrepreneurs and accredited investors launched Florida Funders. Designed to bridge the gap between friends and family money and venture capital investment, the group focuses exclusively on investing in early stage companies in the Sunshine State, with the goal of nurturing them and keeping them here. David Chitester, CEO of Florida Funders, sought Haneke Design’s expertise to create an online solution to help them achieve their goals.
“There’s strong momentum across the state of Florida right now with a burgeoning entrepreneurial ecosystem, including accelerators, incubators and co-working spaces, all focused on supporting startups,” Chitester explained. “A crucial component has been missing – funding. Working together with Haneke Design, we built a web site that helps to solve this problem statewide and facilitates investment transactions between accredited investors and promising early companies, entirely online.”
The mobile friendly, secure WordPress web site Haneke Design created works like this:
Startup companies apply for consideration, and their business plans and pitches are reviewed by Florida Funders’ Shortlist Committee. After that, the company’s management team, financials, sales and marketing data, and exit strategy are evaluated. Once a company gets past their first two rounds of scrutiny, background checks are performed on the company principals. The companies that successfully complete the review process are then presented to the accredited investors for consideration. Accredited investors in the Florida Funders membership can then search and view the offerings from these highly curated companies. Once there is enough interest in funding a company, Florida Funder facilitates the investment, creating a Special Purpose Investment Vehicle, which makes the investment.
Established in March 2014, Florida Funders has already made five investments in Tampa Bay early stage companies, including Savvy Card, Lumastream and Health Hero.
“As someone who has been in ‘startup mode’ a few times in my career, I’m excited we had the opportunity to collaborate with Dave and his team to help drive successful entrepreneurship in the state of Florida,” said Jody Haneke, president of Haneke Design. “There are many talented entrepreneurs in this state already, and more are on the way. What attracts them is opportunity. Local investors are willing to make those opportunities happen, and now there’s a web-based platform for them to find each other.”
