TAMPA, Fla. (January 29, 2016) – Divorce Court host Judge Lynn Toler is this year’s special guest for the Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, presented by MOR-TV. In addition to hosting Divorce Court, which is the longest running television court program, Judge Toler has worked to end domestic violence.
“Judge Toler’s work with victims of domestic abuse and at-risk girls is commendable and aligns well with the great work being done by our other special guest, Big Brothers Big Sisters, in our community,” said Louis Campanello, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and parade chairman.
Judge Toler became the host of Divorce Court in 2006 after serving as a municipal judge in Cleveland Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, for seven years. She was elected as judge at age 33, and during her tenure, she created programs for young offenders, such as Woman Talk, which is a mentoring program for young, at-risk girls.
Judge Toler also led the Cleveland Heights Coordinated Community Response to Violence Against Women, a countywide initiative to coordinate resources to assist women who are victims of violence. She served as an advisory board member for Templum House, a shelter for women who have experienced domestic violence.
In 2002, Judge Toler was awarded The Humanitarian of the Year Award from The Cleveland Domestic Violence Center. She has authored three books, including her most recent book “Making Marriage Work: New Rules for an Old Institution.”
“We’re thrilled to have Judge Toler join us as our special guest for this year’s parade,” said Pamela Barber, President and General Manager of MOR-TV. “We know that all of her Tampa Bay fans are really looking forward to seeing and meeting her.”
Fans are invited to meet Judge Toler at 4 p.m. during the pre-parade events on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Centro Ybor, 1600 E. Eighth Ave.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Judge Toler to Tampa and sharing this annual celebration of civic pride with her,” said Campanello.
The 2016 Knight Parade begins at 7 p.m. as illuminated floats roll down Seventh Avenue in historic Ybor City, led by the Tampa Bay Rays – this year’s parade grand marshal – with special guest Big Brothers Big Sisters. The floats are accompanied by marching bands, thousands of costumed participants, and scores of beads.
The Knight Parade on Saturday, Feb. 13 is free, and attendees can get a better view by purchasing a ticket for one of the reserved seating areas. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased at www.KnightParade.com.
New this year, the Knight Parade Crash Party will immediately follow the parade and run until midnight. Taking place at The Cuban Club, the Crash Party will feature music, drink specials and food trucks. Tickets are $10 for early bird, $20 at the door, and $50 for VIP, including private bar, food and lounge seating.
